After months of speculations and hundreds of suggestions, Googlerevealed the official name of Android N today – it’s Android Nougat!
The company also unveiled Android Nougat’s logo and statue in front of its headquarters in Mountain View, California. It’s composed of the green bugdroid standing on top of three nougat bars.

Google names different Android versions after desserts in alphabetical order. It started with Android 1.5 Cupcake, followed by Android 1.6 Donut, then Android 2.0 Éclair, Android 2.2Froyo, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Android 3.0 Honeycomb, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, Android 4.4 Kitkat, Android 5.0 Lollipop and finally, Android 6.0Marshmallow.
It’s not yet clear what the Android version number for Nougat will be. However, it may not reach 7.0 since a change in the first digit means a revision in design.

Android Nougat’s new features include support for split screendisplay, improved Doze and overall battery life, native Virtual Realityplatform called Daydream and improved notifications among others.
It’s currently in its second beta which means developers are looking for bugs and making their apps compatible with the new Android version. It will be released to the public in August or September.
