NEXTBIT's ROBIN Smartphone

Nextbit has now started accepting pre-orders for its cloud-focused Robin smartphone. Those pre-ordering will have to shell out $399, and the handset – available in mint and midnight color options – is expected to begin shipping in February 2016.
If you aren’t in the know, Robin’s selling point is the way it handles the internal storage, making sure that you never actually run out of space – everything that’s important to you will be available offline, while the rest will be pushed from the cloud upon request. Nextbit not only promises 100GB available cloud space for everyone, but also says it won’t charge for additional space if required.
The company, which is run by former HTC and Google employees, took to Kickstarter for the funding of the smartphone, and raised a total of $1.36 million last month.

LEADING BRANDS OF SMARTPHONE AS OF 2015

Do you even wonder what was the most usable brand of smartphone worldwide? Based on the number of units shipped or sold from January to June 2015, the International Data Corporation (IDC) ranked Cherry Mobile as the number 1 mobile phone brandin the Philippines.

The local brand got 17% of the total phone units followed by Samsung at 14%. Fellow local brands MyPhone and CloudFone are at the third and fourth spots respectively while Lenovo placed fifth.cherry-mobile-with-mascot

Here’s the Ranking:

RANKBRANDMARKET SHARE
1Cherry Mobile17%
2Samsung14%
3MyPhone6%
4CloudFone5.2%
5Lenovo5.1%
This result isn’t surprising given the sheer number of cheap phone models offered by Cherry Mobile. Filipinos almost automatically choose the more affordable option especially when their budget is limited.
On the other hand, Samsung slightly increased its share of the Philippine mobile phone market from 13.3% last year to the current 14%. This may be the result of its renewed focus on affordable models such as its Galaxy J and Prime series.
Despite the fierce competition from bang for the buck phones of Alcatel, Miezu and Xiaomi, MyPhone and CloudFone managed to cling to the top 5 while Torque fell off.
Lenovo also increased its efforts in offering affordable phones such as the A7000 giving it the last spot.
Of course, the number of units sold is not the only factor to be considered in selecting the ‘real’ number one mobile phone brand. There’s also the issue of quality and after sales support such as software updates.
Do you think Cherry Mobile is truly the number 1 phone brand in the Philippines? How about Samsung, Apple or SKK Mobile?

iPhone with Intel Chips??

iPhone user's have been wondering if they will really use Intel chips for their innovation.
We, as consumers, often tend to view most any modern piece of tech as more or less a single piece of electronics, courtesy of its respective manufacturer. However, the reality of making a modern cell phone inevitably involves bringing together a vast amount of chips, materials and processes from an army of companies. Naturally, the same goes for Apple’s iPhone and having the right internals can be just as crucial to its success as Cupertino’s signature design and vision.
Supplying the likes of Apple with the necessary chips to put out tens of millions of smartphones is no easy task and it is quite understandable that the US giant currentlydepends on both TSMC and Samsung to manufacture its A9 chips. Industry sources now suggest that Apple might be bringing yet another partner on board, perhaps even as an exclusive in the long run.
An alleged deal has already been struck with Intel and a veritable task force of 1000 Intel employees might already be working on chips to power the next iPhone generation. A few theories are circulating as to how the partnership might play out and most agree that Apple is most likely interested in Intel’s LTE modems, namely the 7360 LTE modem chip that CEO Brian Krzanich said would start showing up in devices next year. The most likely scenario seems to be an iPhone 7 with both the 7360 LTE modem and Qualcomm’s 9X45 LTE chip for different markets.
The chip in question actually comes courtesy of an Infineon facility in Germany that Intel bough out in 2011. Infineon was, in fact, the supplier of 3G modems for iPhones up until 2011, so, the historical foundation for the partnership is definitely there. Furthermore, it is important to note that Intel has mentioned its intention to add CDMA support to its modems on several occasion – an important feature that would allow Apple to cater to carrier like China Telecom, which uses a combination of LTE and CDMA on its networks.
Other rumors suggest that the partnership might extend even further and that Intel will be tasked to produce a new custom SoC for Cupertino. The former hasn’t really been big in mobile chipsets lately, but it does rely on a cutting-edge 14 nanometer production process. The aforementioned Samsung and TSMC have also managed to shrink things down to the same level, but are reportedly cutting corners by still making chip interfaces with a 20 nanometer process, whereas Intel’s solution is 14 nanometers “from front to back”. This might not sound like much, but could be an invaluable leverage for Apple, which will most likely be designing its custom chips in-house and taking full advantage of Intel’s production capabilities. Cupertino has already proven its expertise in vertical integration, like with the powerful A9 chip, which has the M9 graphics chip on board.
This new development will hopefully pave the way for integrating the phone’s Ax processor and LTE model in the same package as well, effectively boosting overall performance and efficiency. There has also been talk of a possible new integrated solution for the next Apple Watch, which currently uses a far less efficient system-in-package solution.
However, bear in mind that the above is still largely unconfirmed, so take it with a grain of salt at least until Apple or Intel spills the beans on the joint venture.

NEW TELEPHONE COMPANY BY TELSTRA AND SAN MIGUEL CORP.

Here comes the new telephone company that will soon rise.
We now have a concrete word from San Miguel Corporation (SMC) that its planned broadband telecommunications network with Telstra may start operation by 2016.

“Now, we’re building a mobile broadband telecommunications network. We can switch on the network next year…”, SMC president Ramon S. Ang announced during the Forbes Global CEO Conference 2015 held in Manila.
Telstra-SMC-Telco
He said that Telstra and San Miguel Corporation will have no problem in making this joint venture come true since both companies have the money and resources.
Furthermore, the business tycoon promises that the new telco will be superior among the current telcos in the country. That refers to Smart and Globe.
SMC already has experience with putting up a telecommunications network while Telstra is the largest telco in Australia. The latter also has a partnership with Ericson’s 4G LTE network.
